Triangle Congruence (CPCTC)

Definition: CPCTC (Corresponding parts of congruent triangles are congruent):
If two or more triangles are congruent, then their corresponding angles and sides are congruent as well.

Example: Two triangular tiles are congruent. The area of one of the tiles is 64 square inches. What is the area of the other tile? Explain.

Use the given information and the definition of CPCTC to determine the best answer to the word problem.

Step 1: Read and fully understand the word problem.
We are told that two triangular tiles are congruent, meaning they have the same size and same shape. We are are also told that the area of one tile is 64 in².

Step 2: Recall the definition of CPCTC, corresponding parts of congruent triangles are congruent. This means that both triangles have the same base and height.
If the area formula for triangles is Area = 1/2*base*height, and both triangles have the same base and height lengths, they will also have the same area.

If the area of one triangular tile is 64 square inches, then the area of the other tile is also 64 square inches because congruent triangles have matching dimensions.
